If you want to snoop for the newest design ideas, the best option is trendy restaurants. The best thing about scouting this way is that you get to have cocktails and appetizers while doing your research.

This is especially true if you live in a big city or you are visiting one. You can’t expect people to evaluate a restaurant in New York or Los Angeles just by how good the food is. Restaurants have reached a point where even the plates to the feel of the flatwear selection can enhance the the overall culinary experience.

People want cute containers for their condiments and even the wallcovering matters. This is why restaurants are a great place for research. Here are a few restaurants that have amazing décor, so that you can take a few ideas to implement in your own home.

Accent Chair

abcV opened in February, and it was chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s first dive into menus that are all about vegetarians. Here we can see how white paint dominates the whole room. It gives a blank page for accents like the rustic, peeling farm tables and the chandeliers. However, the accent chairs stand out the most. They are the same as the rest, except they are in a bright color. You can use the same idea and put just one chair that stands out at your dining room table.

Mirror Rail

All of us know how good hanging art on picture molding and picture rails are. However, Daily Provisions decided to try something new, hang mirrors from rails. The brass railing stands out against the royal blue and the hooks that hold up the mirror are exposed. This is great at home for narrow halls.

Colored Leather

Leather always looks amazing, but it’s tricky to combine colored leather. However, at Camille Becerra’s all-day-and-eve cafe in Nolita, De Maria, design studio MP Shift nailed it. Using navy, dark green, and dusty green leather as table toppers, they kept everything else at a minimum.

Frosted Glass

We love this beautiful shot by @withoutmeitsmaca! Thanks for stopping by #MotelMorris #designrestaurants

This motel-themed restaurant in Manhattan was designed by the team at Tourmaline. They used retro velvet, curving banquettes, and posh lighting at Motel Morris. However, the frosted glass is the crucial piece. It’s a custom rig of two glass panels with LED lights in between. You don’t have to do it this way, a simple glass pane will balance out the accent pieces in your home.

Angled Wood Paneling

At the Restaurant, Norman designers used chevron flooring in a different way. They blew up the pattern and applied it to wall paneling. It’s an abstract concept, but we can see how the symmetry is calming.
